Ari Lasso: Piracy Upsets

Ari Lasso -- pop singer -- has raised concerns over rampant piracy in the country, saying the police are not serious in stopping the practice.

The 35-year-old told Antara that pirated CDs and cassettes are being offered – openly and legally – in public places like shopping malls or side walks. He said, this situation really upsets artists, especially Indonesian musicians. In other countries, the situation is not as bad as it is here.

Ari said such a practice was able to continue because the country’s police had other pressing problems they needed to deal with, such as drug trafficking or fighting corruption. Let’s just be positive. Those problems are probably much more urgent, with more people suffering, said Ari, who has released four albums since leaving the band Dewa 19 to launch his solo career.
