Sayangnya, Pemilihan Presiden Itu Ada di Amerika Serikat

Bisa jadi sejak kemarin siang semua media – koran, radio, televisi, internet – di seluruh penjuru dunia memberitakan hingar bingar pemilihan presiden di negeri Paman Sam sono. Dalam hitungan jam sejak TPS dibuka, siapa presiden terpilih AS sudah diketahui, dengan data yang valid pula. Yup, Barack Obama yang diusung Partai Demokrat, seperti sudah diprediksi dan di rilis berbagai lembaga survey internasional, akhirnya perolehan suaranya tak terkejar rivalnya dari Partai Republik (John McCain).

Tapi, aku tidak akan membahas masalah statistik pilpres-nya – ya nanti pasti kalah update dong dengan yang ada di televisi atau internet – tetapi aku lebih senang melihat sikap yang ditunjukkan oleh para kandidat presiden tersebut, baik Obama maupun McCain. Persaingan panas yang terjadi sejak masa kampanye, debat di depan publik, sampai detik-detik pemilihan, semuanya masih on-track. Tidak sampai anarkis ataupun rasis, apalagi memakai cara-cara licik, macam money politic dan serangan fajar, hehehe….

Lihat saja, saat penghitungan tengah berlangsung, dan Obama sudah memperoleh lebih dari 50% kursi yang diperebutkan, saat itu juga McCain yang sedang berada di tengah-tengah pendukung fanatiknya, berorasi sekaligus mengucapkan selamat atas kemenangan Obama. Selain itu, McCain juga meminta konstituennya untuk selanjutnya mendukung program-program yang akan dijalankan Obama. Yang lebih mencengangkan, George W. Bush – presiden berkuasa saat ini, berasal dari Partai Republik – juga memberi ucapan selamat pada Obama, dan tak lupa berjanji akan membantu Obama dalam proses peralihan sampai serah terima resmi nanti dilakukan.

Yang membuatku agak heran, kenapa negara yang (dianggap sebagian orang di negeri ini) sebagai polisi dunia, sombong, mau menang sendiri atau apapun yang konotasinya negatif, bisa menjalankan demokrasi secara sportif? Kenapa tidak seperti di negeri ini – yang katanya masyarakatnya menjunjung tinggi persatuan, ramah tamah, kekeluargaannya tinggi dan selalu bermusyawarah – tetapi tidak pernah mau menerima kekalahan, mencari kambing hitam dan lebih banyak anarkisnya dalam setiap (menjalankan) proses demokrasi?

Lucu juga kalau membandingkan dengan pemilihan presiden langsung di negeri kita, Indonesia. Lihat saja, seorang (calon) presiden yang kalah dalam pemilihan tahun 2004, sampai 4 tahun berikutnya (tahun 2008 ini) tidak pernah memberi selamat kepada presiden terpilih, bahkan (katanya) tidak bertegur sapa sampai saat ini. Belum lagi tuduhan kecurangan, penggelembungan suara, tidak mau menandatangani berita acara, dan hal-hal lain yang (makin menunjukkan) kekurangdewasaan dalam berdemokrasi.

Jadi, sayang banget “keharmonisan” dalam berdemokrasi itu hanya bisa kita saksikan di negara orang – dalam hal ini Amerika Serikat – bukan di negeri yang (katanya) gemah ripah loh jinawi ini. Kapan ya kita bisa kayak Amerika?
